Sensai spotlights global growth ambitions at TFWA fair

Japanese luxury skincare and make-up brand Sensai is returning to the 2026 TFWA World Exhibition under the Kao beauty portfolio, exhibiting alongside fellow prestige brands Molton Brown and Oribe.

At this year’s show, Sensai will unveil Autumn/Winter 2026 innovations, headlined by the brand’s return to the premium hair and scalp care category.

Visitors will also discover the brand’s best-sellers, alongside an early introduction to the evolution of Sensai’s core Saho philosophy for 2027, including new developments around its signature Double Moisturising ritual.

Sensai's premium hair and scalp care range

The return to the premium hair and scalp care category marks an important milestone for Sensai, as it seeks to capitalise on the strong brand equity it has built within skincare and make-up.

“Sensai’s continued momentum reflects the power of our luxury beauty proposition, and the increasing relevance of our unique Japanese philosophy among consumers worldwide,” said EMEA General Manager Julien Noilou.

“This year marks an especially exciting chapter for the brand as we re-enter the premium hair and scalp care category – a natural extension of the Sensai universe – bringing the same commitment to craftsmanship, innovation and exceptional performance that consumers have come to expect from our skincare and make-up portfolio. Combined with our continued development of the Saho ritual and Double Moisturising philosophy, we are creating new opportunities to engage luxury beauty consumers across multiple categories and touchpoints.”

Sensai’s recent initiatives reflect Kao’s continued commitment to the luxury beauty segment and the group’s Global Sharp Top Strategy, which focuses investment on categories where Kao can establish a leading market position through high-value offerings and distinctive market propositions. Together, Sensai, Molton Brown and Oribe strengthen Kao’s position in the luxury beauty sector, and meet growing global demand for elevated, experience-led products.

In EMEA, Sensai has achieved year-to-date growth of +5%, supported by particularly strong performances in key heritage markets including Italy, Germany, Poland and Sweden.

More recently, Sensai has also achieved significant momentum in Turkey, bolstered by the development of strong local partnerships and increased brand visibility.

Across Asia Pacific, Sensai is continuing to expand its footprint following its successful launch in Indonesia, with Thailand joining as the brand’s next strategic entry market.

Building momentum through travel retail

Travel retail remains a key pillar of Sensai’s international growth strategy. Recent openings at Warsaw Chopin Airport, Prague Václav Havel Airport and Milan Malpensa Airport have strengthened the brand’s presence at major European gateways, with an opening planned at Rome Fiumicino Airport by the end of 2026.

“The openings clearly reinforce our commitment to selective, premium distribution across strategically important travel hubs,” Noilou noted.

"As we strengthen our presence in established markets, enter new territories and expand our travel retail footprint, we look forward to sharing our latest innovations and future vision with our valued business partners in Cannes."

MCM marks its half-century with little luxuries

German brand MCM is continuing to celebrate its 50th anniversary with additions to its fragrance line and luxury collectibles.

Described as “an avant-garde collaboration between two Munich institutions”, the MCM 50th Anniversary Diamond Cup is a limited-edition piece handmade by the master artisans of Porzellan-Manufaktur Nymphenburg in Munich.

MCM x Nymphenburg 50th Anniversary Diamond Cup

Rooted in Munich craftsmanship, the handcrafted porcelain cup has clean Bauhaus lines and is finished with a signature Visetos sleeve.

Since its founding in 1747 as the official factory of the Bavarian royal family, Nymphenburg has preserved the high art of porcelain through traditional techniques cultivated over generations.

In collaboration with @nowness, a film directed by Felipe Sanguinetti called Formed from Heritage reveals the quiet intensity behind this process – “a study of craft, time and the human touch that defines true luxury”, MCM said.

MCM Cosmic Star fragrance

In other news, Cosmic Star Eau de Parfum (75ml) is the latest addition to the MCM fragrance universe, presented in a White Stark Backpack glass bottle with gold-tone hardware.

Finally, in retail news, the new MCM Lifestyle Store has opened in Bangkok, bridging cafe culture and clean, Bauhaus-inspired design. The space is located on the ground floor of the EmQuartier shopping mall.

Luxe Pack Monaco packs a punch in 2025

Luxe Pack Monaco, the leading event for creative luxury packaging, underwent a transformation this year with 450 exhibitors in the newly expanded Grimaldi Forum venue.

Held from 29 September to 1 October 2025, Luxe Pack introduced two major features: The Portal and The Col’Lab.

Luxe Pack Monaco

In response to the rapid transformation of the industry, The Portal was a new space dedicated to packaging innovation, highlighting disruptive and responsible solutions. This immersive space was structured around four main areas:

Eco-innovation: biomaterials, sustainability, recycling, circular economy;

Smart packaging: connectivity, traceability, blockchain, IoT, cybersecurity;

Artificial Intelligence: generative AI, data intelligence;

Design and experience: UX/UI, augmented reality, 3D visualisation, 3D printing.

Described as a new space for dialogue, The Col’Lab brought together consortiums, collectives and associations committed to the sustainable transformation of packaging and luxury.

The Col’Lab hosted presentations of initiatives and collective projects; meetings with players such as SPICE, RESET, EcoBeautyScore, Circul’R, B Beauty and the Green Impact Index; and conferences.

This year's event unified the Luxe Formulation (formulation and full-service) and Luxe Home (scented accessories) sectors in the same hall. This regrouping reflects the convergence of sensory worlds – cosmetics and home fragrances – and responds to growing consumer demand for comprehensive, multisensory experiences.

Committed initiatives

The Luxe Pack in Green exhibition celebrated its 14th edition with a stronger focus on eco-design. Two categories were highlighted: best packaging solutions and most impactful CSR initiatives.

La Fabrique Singulière was an immersion into artisanal know-how serving luxury and brand storytelling.

The Make a Mark initiative brought together packaging design agencies around sustainability and creativity, with Estal, Avery Dennison and Leonhard Kurz.

The Formes de Luxe exhibition of the finalists of the Formes de Luxe Awards showcased major packaging innovations.

And on the occasion of the Year of the Sea, Besign returned to Luxe Pack Monaco. Students from the international school of sustainable design presented “Ocean Contest: How can brands take action for ocean protection?”, an initiative that questioned the role of brands in ocean preservation.

Meanwhile, the future-focused conference programme explored AI, simulation and digital twins; augmented supply chain; eco-design and the desire for luxury; new aesthetics in China; global regulatory mapping; Middle Eastern consumers; and redefining the emotional value of luxury.

Among the renowned speakers were LVMH Recherche, Chanel, Christian Dior Parfums, La Prairie, Pernod Ricard, Moët Hennessy, La Rosée, L’Occitane and Groupe Yves Rocher.

Sterling Perfumes has introduced its fun take on fragrances at the TFWA World Exhibition, featuring exclusive launches and line extensions.

The star product launch is Island Breeze, the latest addition to the UAE-based fragrance specialist’s flagship ARMAF brand.

Island Breeze takes inspiration from summer vibes and a welcome island breeze, with notes of Pink Peach, Rose, Vanilla and Floral Musk.

ARMAF is known for its sleek packaging and commitment to accessible luxury, and this new fragrance is presented in a striking bottle with details of a chic milkshake garnished with a cherry. The fragrance was revealed officially on 29 September.

Island Breeze’s debut follows last year’s successful launch – also at the TFWA fair – of ARMAF Delights’ Yum Yum and Island Bliss fragrances for women.

Fun and new: Sterling Perfumes' Dubai Chocolat fragrance

Sterling Group Chairman and CEO Dr Ali Asgar Fakhruddin said: “After a phenomenal response to our product launches in 2024, we now have Island Breeze ready to take on the world. This exciting new fragrance underscores ARMAF’S place in the international fragrance scene.”

Another first for Sterling (outside the US market) is the new Odyssey line-up which includes popular gourmand trendsetters – Marshmallow, Black Forest, Toffee Coffee, Ba Ha Mas and Go Mango.

Influencer engagement

Sterling is expecting significant KOL engagement in its new on-stand Creator’s Lounge with a number of Master Perfumer sessions planned from Arturetto Landi, among others.

Hamidi, with its ornamental oil collections and innovative non-alcoholic fragrance range, is featured on the exhibition stand, along with Risala, which offers a modern take on haute parfumerie with its playful, sharp twists on novel fragrance concepts. Other brands such as Just Jack, Jenny Glow, Flavia and Artistic Perfumery are on display in Cannes.

Sterling Perfumes Managing Director Hamza Fakhruddin said: “Sterling continues to live up to its name, shining and standing out in the fragrance sector through its ability to offer accessible luxury whilst combining heritage with innovation.

“Our new experiential stand is a milestone for Sterling. The Creator’s Lounge and Master Perfumer sessions will bring visitors closer to the art of fragrance-making, creating moments of discovery and interaction that reflect our brand philosophy. It’s not just about seeing the products – it’s about experiencing the creativity and passion behind them.”

He noted the strength of Sterling’s business in the Middle East and Asian markets. “Sterling has expanded its presence in multiple locations across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and India with a wide variety of brand penetrations.

“We are seeing great interest from multiple operators who recognise our agility and our trend-setting capabilities. Importantly, we are always open to doing something fun and new."

Molton Brown launches artistic summer campaign

UK fragrance house Molton Brown has introduced a series of high-impact installations in travel retail doors, in partnership with Avolta-owned World Duty Free, as part of its Summer 2025 campaign to support its best-selling Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold fragrance.

Timed to coincide with the peak summer travelling season, the eye-catching Must Have Tables are live at London Heathrow Terminal 2 and T5, and at London Stansted, from 5 August until 3 September.

Molton Brown's best-selling Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold collection

The Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold collection includes Eau de Parfum, Bath & Shower Gel, Body Lotion, Fine Liquid Hand Wash, Hand Lotion, Candles, Aroma Reeds and Aroma Reed Refills.

A curated selection is being highlighted on the Must Have Tables, which feature a QR code customers can scan to discover more. The information is available in English, French and German. Travellers who spend £120 will receive a 7.5ml Travel Eau de Parfum gwp.

Brand storytelling through Artists of Note

Introduced in 2015, Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold was Molton Brown’s most successful fragrance in 2024. Composed by Senior Perfumer Sylvie Fischer, its winning formula takes wearers seamlessly from day to night, thanks to its signature note of olibanum resin.

Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold is the latest addition to Molton Brown’s pioneering Artists of Note series, which invites creatives to reimagine the brand’s fragrances through their unique media, to express the sensorial power of scent.

For Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold, Molton Brown chose London-based multi-disciplinary artist Karimah Hassan. Her distinctive “paint out loud” approach sees her express the scent in a painting and poem called The Golden Bridge.

“This natural meeting of perfumery and artistry is a true reflection of Molton Brown’s dedication to craftsmanship and the emotional connection we forge with scent,” the company said.

Drawing from her rich Welsh, Yemeni and Bangladeshi background, along with her strong identity as a Londoner, Hassan creates large-scale paintings and installations alive with legacy, memory and heritage. Collaborating with brands such as Burberry, and with exhibitions in Selfridges and The Rosewood, she is inspired by the fresh, raw energy of the city and its wave of painters, writers, designers and musicians moving as one.

Molton Brown's Must Have Table in travel retail

"I strive for radiance"

With The Golden Bridge, Hassan uses her multi-faceted practice to depict the “alchemy of turning scent into ceremony”.

“I strive for radiance through my painting and poetry,” Hassan noted. “I work with layers of colour, of story, of emotion.” Of the fragrance, she declared: “It makes me feel like a goddess – like I’m charging forward on a chariot.”

Much like how the scent unfurls note by note, Hassan’s artwork demands a second look to uncover its hidden intricacies. Captured in a diptych – one single composition across two connected portraits – the expressive layers of golds, rich ambers and burnt reds perfectly merge with unexpected textures to display a heady, dreamlike oasis.

“As one of our enduring best-sellers, Mesmerising Oudh Accord & Gold is a key priority for us in the travel retail channel, and we have a number of exciting initiatives planned for this strategic focus,” said Molton Brown Key Account Manager Global Travel Retail Rohanne Collis. “This summer’s Must Have Tables offer a strong platform to build on this fragrance’s momentum, while also celebrating its latest evolution as part of our Artists of Note series."

Prestigious brands include Chanel in the beauty category, while Cartier and Hublot watches are being offered in a multi-brand store. This store also includes certified pre-owned Rolex. Notably, the first-at-sea Omega boutique has been introduced.

As a result of a 2019 tender, this is the fourth Royal Caribbean ship awarded to the travel retailer, which also operates on Wonder of the Seas, Odyssey of the Seas and Independence of the Seas.

As a result of the successful partnership that began in 2019, Icon of the Seas is the third new-build launched by Heinemann Americas since the pandemic.

“This achievement firmly cements the travel retailer’s standing as the leading expert for new-builds within the industry,” the company said.

MCM shows fragrance strength with ONYX

MCM has introduced MCM ONYX Eau de Parfum, the first men’s fragrance from the German luxury brand, produced in partnership with Interparfums.

Synonymous with the powerful gemstone, MCM ONYX is said to inspire energy, empowerment and strength. The futuristic woody fougère scent is born from the clash between luxury craftsmanship and new-tech perfumery, the company said.

Inspired by the brand’s signature Stark backpack, MCM ONYX reimagines MCM’s original award-winning fragrance bottle design in a modern, yet refined colourway, wrapped in black Visetos paired with metallic grey accents.

Sabine Brunner, President of MCM, said: “This design is at heart of MCM DNA, epitomising the free spirit of travel. We are excited about this new fragrance that takes our tribe of 21st century digital nomads on a transcending journey from ingredient to sentiment, fragrance to feeling and note to emotion."

Top notes are ginger, pink pepper and grapefruit, while the middle notes consist of Lavender Naturals Together, basil and violet leaf. The woody base notes of Vetiver Naturals Together, Clearwood and tonka leave a trail of warmth contrasted with an added long-lasting minerality.

Senior Perfumer Clément Gavarry of Firmenich, who created the fragrance, said: “When I was working on MCM ONYX, I wanted to ensure it captured the essence of freedom in a fresh and modern way. The scent’s effervescent notes of spices and ginger, along with fresh lavender and warm woods encapsulate the feeling of being unstoppable.”

Described as a responsible creation, MCM ONYX’s vegan formula is made of over 79% biodegradable ingredients and over 89% of its ingredients are created using green chemistry principles – both key for a more sustainable fragrance future. Over 72% of its sustainably sourced Naturals Together ingredients make a positive social impact on local communities all over the world, according to MCM.

MCM ONYX is available in 30ml, 50ml and 75ml sizes.

MCM puts K-pop fun into Frieze Seoul

German luxury fashion house MCM introduced a hybrid art fashion space in its flagship store during Frieze Seoul, attracting K-pop stars to the global art fair’s inaugural event in the South Korean capital, which took place from September 2-5.

The multi-artist exhibition at MCM’s five-storey MCM HAUS in Cheongdam, Seoul, combines culture, art and fashion. It kicked off on August 31.

Featuring MCM’s most iconic collections, the store has been transformed into an art space. The top floor features a group exhibition of internationally established artists. In addition, leading Korean artist JungHwa Choi set up an art installation inside the store, integrating MCM’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection into his artwork.

After its successful premiere at the end of April during Gallery Weekend Berlin in Germany, the pop-art collaboration between MCM and the renowned German artist Johannes Wohnseifer continues its journey and is one of the highlights being showcased at MCM HAUS in Seoul.

The DJ trunk case has not only been designed as a hybrid, with classical elegance on the exterior and futurism on the interior, but Wohnseifer has also selected different media to fill it with life.

In addition to a collection of pieces from MCM's rich art and fashion heritage, it contains works and influences that equally appeal to collectors of his art and MCM's customers. They include an unreleased track by DJ duo and friends of the artist, Schaeben & Voss, a unique aluminium painting, a Diasec print limited edition of a photographic collage and a leather toy giraffe – all designed by the German artist.

MCM’s Chairperson and Chief Visionary Officer Sung-Joo Kim hosted a party to celebrate the opening of Frieze Seoul on September 2, welcoming creators, artists, celebrities and press. Further events were staged at the flagship store during the week, including a party in collaboration with Soho House and a VIP dinner. The special exhibition will be held at MCM Haus until September 30.

About Johannes Wohnseifer

Johannes Wohnseifer (born in 1967 in Cologne) lives and works in Cologne and Erfstadt, Germany. The artist works in an array of media, including collage, painting and photography, as well as sculptures and installations. In his exploration of the icons of popular culture, he references the history of art and design and analyses everyday life as defined by the mass media. His works often feature invented logos and subversive messages that borrow from corporate branding, loaded cultural symbols, and political propaganda. He uses items of consumption and prestige, such as sneakers and cars, as a mirror of history, particularly referencing his own coming of age.

As a collector of images that he discovers in advertising, books and Instagram, Wohnseifer combines historical events with pop culture, questioning the boundaries between intellectual ambition and entertainment. Wohnseifer’s art is represented in renowned private and public collections such as those of Christian Boros, Harald Falckenberg, Susan and Michael Hort, Charles Saatchi and Julia Stoschek.
