Top cyclists to appear at Monaco event

Elite cyclists Mark Cavendish and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot are set to appear at Beking, Monaco’s annual cycling event, on 23 November 2025.

The sport’s biggest names will cycle alongside amateur cyclists and families for a day of racing and activities.

Beking 2024 in Monaco

For its fifth year, world champion Tadej Pogačar will headline the men’s professional criterium field. He will be joined by former Milano-Sanremo winner Matej Mohorič and Grand Tour stage winner Michael Matthews.

The women’s race will feature multi-discipline world champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, who recently won the Tour de France Femmes. She will compete with Tour de France Femmes 2024 winner Kasia Niewiadoma, Lorena Wiebes and Chiara Consonni, a medal winner at the Track World Championships.

Amateurs to ride with legends

Meanwhile, amateur riders will compete alongside cycling legends in the Pro/Am charity race. Captains will include Tour de France stage wins record-holder Mark Cavendish, 2010 world champion Thor Hushovd and Paris-Roubaix race winner Sonny Colbrelli. Formula 1 driver Antonio Giovinazzi and former French footballer Jean-Pierre Papin will also lead teams.

Children remain at the heart of the event. Young cyclists will be able to ride the same circuit as the professionals and a Kids Area will host activities centred on road safety and sustainable transport.

Proceeds will support the Beking Foundation, which was set up by professional cyclists and focuses on educational and sporting projects for young people.

“Reaching the fifth edition feels truly inspiring,” said Matteo Trentin, the event’s host and the driving force behind Beking. “We race all over the world for a living, but Beking is different. Here, we ride with a purpose: the ambition to build something lasting for the next generation and for the planet."

Luxe Pack Monaco packs a punch in 2025

Luxe Pack Monaco, the leading event for creative luxury packaging, underwent a transformation this year with 450 exhibitors in the newly expanded Grimaldi Forum venue.

Held from 29 September to 1 October 2025, Luxe Pack introduced two major features: The Portal and The Col’Lab.

Luxe Pack Monaco

In response to the rapid transformation of the industry, The Portal was a new space dedicated to packaging innovation, highlighting disruptive and responsible solutions. This immersive space was structured around four main areas:

Eco-innovation: biomaterials, sustainability, recycling, circular economy;

Smart packaging: connectivity, traceability, blockchain, IoT, cybersecurity;

Artificial Intelligence: generative AI, data intelligence;

Design and experience: UX/UI, augmented reality, 3D visualisation, 3D printing.

Described as a new space for dialogue, The Col’Lab brought together consortiums, collectives and associations committed to the sustainable transformation of packaging and luxury.

The Col’Lab hosted presentations of initiatives and collective projects; meetings with players such as SPICE, RESET, EcoBeautyScore, Circul’R, B Beauty and the Green Impact Index; and conferences.

This year's event unified the Luxe Formulation (formulation and full-service) and Luxe Home (scented accessories) sectors in the same hall. This regrouping reflects the convergence of sensory worlds – cosmetics and home fragrances – and responds to growing consumer demand for comprehensive, multisensory experiences.

Committed initiatives

The Luxe Pack in Green exhibition celebrated its 14th edition with a stronger focus on eco-design. Two categories were highlighted: best packaging solutions and most impactful CSR initiatives.

La Fabrique Singulière was an immersion into artisanal know-how serving luxury and brand storytelling.

The Make a Mark initiative brought together packaging design agencies around sustainability and creativity, with Estal, Avery Dennison and Leonhard Kurz.

The Formes de Luxe exhibition of the finalists of the Formes de Luxe Awards showcased major packaging innovations.

And on the occasion of the Year of the Sea, Besign returned to Luxe Pack Monaco. Students from the international school of sustainable design presented “Ocean Contest: How can brands take action for ocean protection?”, an initiative that questioned the role of brands in ocean preservation.

Meanwhile, the future-focused conference programme explored AI, simulation and digital twins; augmented supply chain; eco-design and the desire for luxury; new aesthetics in China; global regulatory mapping; Middle Eastern consumers; and redefining the emotional value of luxury.

Among the renowned speakers were LVMH Recherche, Chanel, Christian Dior Parfums, La Prairie, Pernod Ricard, Moët Hennessy, La Rosée, L’Occitane and Groupe Yves Rocher.

Monaco Yacht Show ends on a high note

After four days, the 34th Monaco Yacht Show closed another year as a successful showcase for the world’s finest vessels.

The 2025 show featured more than 400 stands and 120 of the world’s most important yachts on display in Port Hercule, ranging from 25-metre classics to 100-metre megayachts.

More than 30,000 visitors attended the 34th edition, first launched in 1991 under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II.

Prince Albert receives a donation for his Foundation at the Monaco Yacht Show (Palais Princier)

During his official visit to the show on 25 September 2025, Prince Albert received a €54,000 donation to support His Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, presented by Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show, and Lord Stephen Carter, CEO of Informa Group, the show organiser.

Olivier Wenden, Vice-President and CEO of the Foundation, welcomed this gesture, which is renewed each year.

Since 2010, the Monaco Yacht Show has supported the Foundation's initiatives, notably the Ice Memory project, which aims to study climate change and its effects by preserving ice cores from glaciers that are at risk of degradation or disappearance.

Celebrating the world of yachting

The donation was officially presented aboard the catamaran Reduce (35.9m, 2024), built by Silver Yachts and winner of the Special Jury Award at the inaugural Monaco Yacht Show Blue Wake Awards, in recognition of its eco-friendly innovations.

This visit followed a stop aboard the sailing yacht Maximus (59.29m, 2024), built by Vitters Shipyard and also nominated in the category.

The donation marked the conclusion of the Sovereign’s tour of the show, during which he engaged with exhibitors in the Upper Deck Lounge.

Prince Albert also paused to discover the photographic exhibition Tribute to Yachting. Curated by the Monaco Yacht Show in collaboration with photographer Guillaume Plisson, the exhibition offered visitors an artistic and poetic immersion celebrating the world of yachting.

French teenager makes history in Monte-Carlo

#NextGenATP tennis star Arthur Fils became the youngest Frenchman to record a match win at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters since Richard Gasquet in 2005 on Monday when he cruised past Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann 6-0, 6-2.

The 19-year-old produced one of his best performances of the season in front of a vocal local crowd to record victory on his debut in the Principality. He hit 11 winners and struck just seven unforced errors, according to Infosys ATP Stats.

Arthur Fils wins in Monte-Carlo

“I watched a lot this tournament on TV. I saw many champions. I’m happy to play here for the first time,” Fils said. “Well, it’s good to play the tournament, but it’s also good to win matches, and I hope I’ll keep coming here in the following years, and I’m sure it’s going to become a milestone in my season.”

Fils, who is No. 36 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, performed well on clay last season, winning his maiden tour-level title on the surface in Lyon. Fils is the youngest Frenchman to win a match in the Principality since then-18-year-old Gasquet upset Roger Federer in 2005. Fils will next play Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

Three laureates celebrate Planetary Health Awards

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has held its 15th annual Awards Ceremony for Planetary Health to honour personalities and organisations who have shown remarkable commitment to the preservation of the planet.

In his opening address at the event in Monaco on November 25, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco emphasised that while the awards reward inspiring personalities for their work in the fields of water, climate and biodiversity, they also reward the paths they have chosen. Those of "politics and collective action; science and research; industry and innovation. Three areas that we must constantly mobilise, for it is with them that we make progress".

Prince Albert underlined the importance of the 2022 laureates' commitment: "At a time when our planet is once again experiencing open conflicts that tend to push environmental issues aside, there has never been a better time to give a voice to those who seek to protect it.”

Prince Albert presented three laureates with their distinctions. They are:

Dr Agnes Kalibata, former Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources of Rwanda and President of AGRA, where she has been leading efforts to ensure Africa's food security and prosperity through inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth to secure the livelihoods of millions of smallholders since 2014.

Receiving her award, Dr Kalibata said: “We are not on track to achieve the SDG Goal of Zero Hunger by 2030. This is made more difficult by climate change – the challenge of our time. Agriculture is a major part of the climate problem. It currently generates 19-29% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Without action, that percentage could rise substantially.

"I am honoured to receive this award today. But it is not just for me. It is also an award acknowledging that we must continue our push to support African smallholder farmers – as they look to increase their agriculture production for more food security and increased incomes, they must do this while having choices to use modern technologies and practices that take care of the environment.”

Professor Dame Jane Francis, a geologist by training, is Director of the British Antarctic Survey, a research centre of the Natural Environment Research Council (UKRI-NERC). She is involved in international polar organisations, such as the Antarctic Treaty and the European Polar Council, and serves on several advisory boards of national polar programmes.

“It is a great honour to receive this award and I do so on behalf of all the excellent scientists who work with me at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge and many colleagues around the world who are dedicated to understanding the changes happening to the polar regions,” said Professor Francis. ”I am sure that we are all aware that the polar regions are changing fast. What happens in these regions affects us all, even as we sit here today. As the ice sheets melt the sea level is rising across the planet, affecting billions of people who live near the coasts, affecting cities and business supply chains.”

The third award was presented to Dr Ido Sella, CEO and Co-founder of ECOncrete Tech, an interdisciplinary scientific company made up of biologists, ecologists, environmental engineers, designers and concrete technology specialists, among others. ECOncrete's mission is to change the gold standard, transforming the way our concrete coasts look and function, so that where the ocean meets the shore, life thrives – above and below the water.

Dr Sella said: “With the majority of human population residing along coastlines, and the intensive process of coastal armoring due to increased storminess and prediction to sea level rise, an increased focus should be given to the neutral marine resources that are supporting precious ecosystem services – such as biodiversity, carbon sequestration, nursery grounds, and many others. Today, as we work with cities, governments, industries and communities to change the way future waterfronts will look and function, and make marine life thrive where it couldn’t before, we are more committed than ever to this quest.”

Following the presentation of the awards, a documentary film was shown to the public. "The Church Forests of Ethiopia" was produced by WaterBear, the first interactive streaming platform dedicated to the future of our planet. The film shed light on the forests that surround churches in Ethiopia, offering pockets of lush biodiversity in the middle of desert plains.

The screening echoed the new Forests & Communities Initiative launched in 2022 by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation alongside founding partners IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, the International Federation of Rangers and the Global Forest Coalition to protect forests and their biodiversity through the actions of local communities.

The ceremony followed with a round table discussion with the laureates and Ellen Windemuth, founder of WaterBear.

The Beking Monaco cycling event returns on 27 November with a group of champions to celebrate sport and solidarity.

Professionals, amateurs, families and today's and tomorrow's champions will be attending Beking Monaco, which aims to celebrate cycling and bring people closer to the bicycle – a symbol of sustainable mobility.

Beking Monaco consists of a day of races and activities for families and friends in the name of sport and solidarity. Among the big names attending the event on the Monaco circuit are Peter Sagan, Primož Roglič – winner of the first edition, held last year – Elia Viviani, Matteo Trentin, Tadej Pogacar, Philippe Gilbert, Luke Rowe, Lizzie Deignan, Elena Cecchini and Urška Žigart.

The programme includes a spectacular criterium on Monaco’s famous Port Hercule, activities for children, and an innovative format: the Pro-Am cycling race.

Speedy the sloth: Beking Monaco's digital mascot

"We are happy to announce the date of the second edition of Beking, an event that sees two companies, CMT and Awe, collaborate for this exciting project," said Matteo Trentin. "With the contribution of the Monaco Cycling Federation, we will welcome families, children, friends and athletes. Our aim is to share our philosophy with everyone, which is cycling and bicycles as a way of life, even in the city. We are expecting many children so that we can give them the opportunity to ride safely."

While the champions challenge each other on an exciting circuit, children and their families have a dedicated space to play and learn about road safety. The event’s digital mascot is a cute sloth called Speedy, who learns to ride a bike safely.

“Beking is above all about solidarity. Indeed, the event's mission is to create opportunities for development through cycling and the values of sport,” said Trentin.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and Fight Aids Monaco, an association presided over by H.S.H. Princess Stephanie of Monaco, to support their projects.

Beking is also a milestone for international cycling, since the Union Cycliste Internationale's (UCI) annual meeting will be held the day after the event, on 28 November, in Monaco.

For the first time, a Women’s Breakthrough Player of the Year category is presented, bringing the total to 14 awards, recognising the best of women in rugby. Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation joins ghost gear initiative to fight plastic pollution

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is joining Ocean Conservancy’s Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI). The GGGI is the world’s only alliance solely dedicated to solving the problem of abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear, also known as ghost gear.

“It is a pleasure to welcome the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation as a partner in the fight to eliminate ghost gear, the most harmful form of marine debris,” said Ingrid Giskes, Director of the GGGI at Ocean Conservancy. “With Spain joining the GGGI in April this year, we look forward to working together and expanding our work in the Mediterranean region.”

Gear loss occurs wherever fishing takes place, often due to rough weather, snags beneath the surface, and marine traffic accidentally running it over and cutting it loose. In addition to being lethal, it is also among the most prevalent forms of ocean plastic pollution.

Research indicates that ghost fishing gear makes up 46-70% of all floating macroplastics in ocean gyres by weight, and up to a 30% decline in some fish stocks can be attributed to ghost gear. In the western Mediterranean, ALDFG reportedly accounts for 77% of the total number of marine debris items.

Olivier Wenden, Vice President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, said: “Protecting marine ecosystems and fighting plastic pollution is a major concern for the Foundation, not only in the Mediterranean Basin but also at a global scale. Tackling the issue of ghost gear, which is jeopardising marine life and the health of our ocean, requires collaborative work if we want to drive effective change. Joining forces with Ocean Conservancy in the framework of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative is a step further in our mission to raise awareness of the problems the Mediterranean Sea is facing and accelerate the development of scalable solutions for the future of the ocean.”

About the Global Ghost Gear Initiative

The Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) is the only cross-sectoral alliance dedicated to solving the problem of abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear – ghost gear – around the world. The GGGI brings together more than 130 stakeholder groups, including 20 national governments as well as representatives from civil society, the private sector, public agencies, academia, intergovernmental organisations and others from across the fishing industry to tackle ghost gear on a global scale. For details, see www.ghostgear.org.

About Ocean Conservancy

Ocean Conservancy is working to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges. Together with partners, it creates science-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it. See www.oceanconservancy.org.

Monaco Red Cross partners with Prince Albert’s Foundation on climate change

Monaco’s Red Cross has made a full commitment to the environment by donating €16,000 ($16,400) to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation to undertake a project linked to greenhouse gas reduction.

The Monegasque Red Cross says it is “aware of the role of human activity in climate change and the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions in order to reduce this impact”.

The aim of the chosen project is to develop sustainable agriculture and improve water resource management in the province of Kénédougou in Burkina Faso.

The province is regularly affected by floods, drought, insects harmful to crops and violent winds. The province has several rivers and water sources, with a forest area in the south and a savannah in the north.

“This situation creates an imbalance and accentuates the climatic hazards between the two parts of the province with sometimes drops in rainfall and long periods of drought in certain localities,” says the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

“Livestock farming is difficult due to the presence of epizootics that affect both livestock and poultry, and the consequences of which are the loss of animals and a drop in income,” it adds.

The project, conducted by Action Contre La Faim, aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable households, including people with disabilities, through sustainable access to food through the adoption of innovative agricultural practices for households and local organisations.

“Access to food and nutritional security necessarily involves improving the availability of water for irrigation and consumption and the popularisation of agro-ecological practices. The project therefore also aims to guarantee access to and efficient use of water through the approach of integrated water resources management,” the Foundation says.

Finally, the project supports municipalities in assessing their vulnerability to the effects of climate change and their skills in emergency preparedness and response plans for natural disasters.

Fashioning climate change solutions

Two forward-looking projects relevant to the fashion industry were among the companies showcasing their sustainability technologies to investors at the CleanEquity Monaco 2021 conference, held from July 22-23, 2021.

Among the impressive roster of speakers was Dr Andrew Steer, President & CEO of the Bezos Earth Fund, which Amazon entrepreneur Jeff Bezos set up with $10 billion available this decade to help accelerate clean energy transitions. Among its initiatives, the fund is aiming to electrify US school buses to make the air cleaner and therefore improve children’s health.

Describing the challenges ahead as “an exciting revolution”, Steer urged all stakeholders to “take more risks” in their quest for a cleaner planet and to act smartly. He said 35-50 revolutions must take place in the areas of energy, transport, the built environment, food and manufacturing. He believes the heart of the solution lies with investors who “need guts to do the right thing” and that philanthropy should be leading the way, not governments. “These are exciting times but perilous,” he warned, adding: “Transformative change requires systemic change.” He acknowledged the role of activists in pushing for change, but added that it was important to have a “spirit of hope”.

Steer’s words were echoed by BP Europe’s Chairman Peter Mather, who described climate change as “a monumental challenge”. As an oil- and gas-based company, BP intends to produce 40% less oil by 2030 and added that the firm was “up for the responsibility” of energy transition. He described BP as not a “green” company but a “greening” company, as the vast majority of its profit was currently generated by oil and gas. However, BP is now moving towards renewables, electrification, carbon capture and hydrogen.

Two initiatives stood out for fashion industry watchers. The first is from a company called Qualus, which aims to reduce the water usage and harmful chemicals produced by the $20bn leather industry. The firm works with tanneries to replace water with sferes, lowering the cost of production while keeping the leather quality high. It has signed up as a client the large Mexican tannery Lefarc, which has become the most sustainable tannery in Mexico. A Brazilian customer will come on-stream later this year. Product demonstrations are being held with a global luxury goods brand and a footwear brand, according to CEO Vikrant Pratap. “Handbags and shoes are out there using our system and we expect to sign up customers in Europe and Asia this year.”

The second fashion initiative is from Circulariti, a company that is developing a digital platform to enable brands and retailers to scale and commercialise the circular economy. The UK-based firm has an impressive roster of executives and non-executive directors who have worked at Farfetch, Ted Baker, Tu Clothing, George, Swarovski and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, among others. Noting that the apparel industry produces 10% of the world’s greenhouse gases, CEO Jamie Goldring believes the industry has reached a “circular tipping point” that needs to scale sustainably.

The Circulariti system, which is under development, maps the genome of an apparel item and tells the consumer via an app the environmental impact of the product, such as the amount of carbon and water used in its production. The app follows the entire lifecycle of the product, both before and after the consumer buys it. For example, at the point of purchase, consumers can opt for carbon offset and pay more for the product. Thanks to the re-use module, the consumer can take advantage of a store discount if the item is returned to the store, or choose from different rental or resale options offered within the app. The product lifespan is increased with information about local repair stations, Goldring said. Overall, the app will provide five opportunities for revenue and reuse, thereby enabling the circular economy.

This year’s trio of CleanEquity Monaco award recipients (pictured above) were presented with a climate change-themed trophy from Bernard Fautrier, a Special Adviser to Prince Albert on sustainability matters. Designed by Clare McCluskey, a visual artist from Dublin, and made from sustainably sourced, traceable wood from the Lisnavagh Timber Project in Carlow, Ireland, the trophies contain an inner dimension that reminds the holder of their own agency, responsibility and creativity in seeking new possibilities for a better future.

The award recipients were: Conamix, in the research category; Vertoro, for environmental tech development; and Voltaware, for environmental tech commercialisation. CleanEquity Monaco is an annual invitation-only event organised by Innovator Capital, with contributors and sponsors including Covington, Cision, Taronis Fuels, EarthX, Cranfield University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Solve.

MCM breaks beauty rules with new fragrance

MCM is set to rock the fragrance world with its new Eau de Parfum.

The global luxury brand has sought to capture its DNA with cute backpack-shaped packaging and an innovative ad campaign centred on disruptive technology used by computer gaming sensation Fortnite.

The “travel beyond” ad campaign concept is embodied by a cast of young, up-and-coming and bold talent: Anais Pouliot, Haejin Lee, Patryk Lawry, Dizzy Fae and Curtis Waters.

The one-of-a-kind design pays homage to the brand’s classic Visetos backpack. Signature coated canvas then wraps the bottle in a texture designed to be familiar to touch. The outer packaging depicts the famous golden studs found on MCM backpacks.

Top notes feature vibrant raspberry and apricot, with middle notes of hand-picked jasmine and white peony and violet leaf, and vanilla and sandalwood at the base.

The virtual launch event is MC’d by fashion architect and MCM Global Creative Partner Misa Hylton, who is famous for styling legendary music artists like Mary J Blige.

DJ and sound director Michel Gaubert provides the vibes that set the mood in tandem with the aroma, while contemporary urban artist Bisco Smith reimagines the backpack in his inimitable graffiti style.

MJ Rabbit comments: This is the most memorable fragrance launch I've ever seen - and you can quote me on that. I've been observing the beauty industry for around 30 years as a luxury goods journalist. Never before have I seen a brand truly capture its DNA in a fragrance. MCM’s Eau de Parfum backpack presentation is fun, innovative and streetwise. Firmenich perfumer Clement Gavarry says he broke the rules. MCM has thrown down the gauntlet to other industry players. Let the beauty battle commence...
