MJ Rabbit meets... Pearl Lam

I'm at a dinner in  hosted by my friend, the vivacious Valentina, who publishes the ultra-luxury publication B Beyond Magazine.

Valentina is famous for gathering the great and the good - lovers of art and culture - to her home in the swanky Knightsbridge district of London, near Harrods. This evening, she has invited one of her friends, Pearl Lam, and I'm dying to meet her.

Pearl Lam, the renowned Hong Kong-based art gallery owner, enters the room, somehow combining the playfulness of a kitten with the glamour and sophistication of the Chinese socialite she is - her wealthy family made money from hotels and banking. Wearing a stunning Balenciaga dress, she lights up the room with her dynamic personality and huge presence. She has charisma in spades and loves to laugh.

Sporting my treasured MCM clutch embellished with Swarovski crystals, I brought along a magnum of fabled Burgundy red wine Romanee-Conti to share among the guests over dinner. Pearl doesn't drink, but heartily approves of my choice, which is a status symbol among the Chinese elite. I'm happy!

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit...

I named my blog after my favourite animal, the rabbit. But I'm not the only fashion-lover who admires these beautiful creatures.

British designer Katie Hillier and super-stylist Katie Grand also have bunny love. Happily, they frequently include them in their work. More please!

Here is Clara, Katie Grand's bunny:

Gold fever

One of my favourite shops in the world is Zegg & Cerlati, which sells the most glitzy watches and jewellery on the planet.

Located in Casino Square, Monte-Carlo, the store is run by Monaco's most fashionable couple, Tina Zegg and Carlo Cerlati.

Here are just a few of their sumptuous golden offerings:

Zegg & Cerlati Place du Casino watch made from gold and diamonds
Zegg & Cerlati Soleil Z sunglasses in yellow gold with Zeiss optics
Zegg & Cerlati Soleil Z sunglasses in pink gold
Amaze your friends on the golf course with a gold Zegg & Cerlati golf bag
Don't lose these Zegg & Cerlati gold and silver golf balls!

Denim lover

I love jeans and watches, so it was my lucky day when I learnt that Swiss watchmaker Hublot had teamed up with watch retailer extraordinaire Tina Zegg to design the limited-edition Hublot Big Bang Jeans watch.

As well as having a watch strap made from DSquared denim, the actual watch face is also covered in denim. Cool!

The watch range was exclusive to the Zegg & Cerlati watch and jewellery store in Monaco’s famous Casino Square for several months this summer before being launched further afield.

Feast your eyes on my latest obsession:

MJ Rabbit meets... Sung-Joo Kim, Sungjoo Group

Meeting inspirational CEOs is one of the most exciting aspects of my work as a brand-watcher.

One of the most inspiring leaders I’ve ever met is Korean-born Sung-Joo Kim, who, among many other things, owns the MCM fashion brand and holds the wonderful title of Chief Visionary Officer at the German luxury house.

A committed philanthropist, Mrs Kim has the most amazing background. Disinherited by her strict Korean parents (her billionaire father founded the Daesung Group conglomerate) who wanted her to marry and have a family, Mrs Kim decided to forge her own independent path in business. First, she spent some time learning the fashion retail trade under the legendary Marvin Traub of Bloomingdale’s in New York. Then she returned to Korea to found her own retail firm Sungjoo Group, which held the Korean franchise for such luxury brands as Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. After the Asian financial crisis (yes, there was one in 1997), Mrs Kim acquired fashion brand MCM, which, as its franchisee, she had grown into a powerful luxury accessories brand in Korea.

Today, MCM has stores in the major fashion capitals and is wholesaled in luxury stores worldwide such as Harrods and Bloomingdale’s.

By the way, the MCM blog is one of the best I’ve seen and is well worth checking out.

As a thank-you for some work I did for the brand, Mrs Kim gifted me an electric blue MCM Stark backpack. I used to dream about decorating my dressing room with Hello Kitty items (I love the Japanese kawaii culture) but now I only hanker for a room full of MCM backpacks. One in every colour, every size... but that’s another blog.
